Introduction
ISBT has an increasing membership with more than 1000 members from over
90 countries. Members include researchers, blood transfusion
specialists, clinicians and health care professionals who share a common
interest in health care and in particular in establishing and/or
improving blood banking practices and Transfusion Medicine.
In recognition of increasing global responsibilities and in response to demand for education and training, especially in developing countries, ISBT has established the Foundation. The aims of the Foundation are to raise money to improve health care in general with particular emphasis on blood transfusion. Its funds will be utilized in several ways towards creating an infrastructure in countries of greatest need. Creating an infrastructure is the first step in providing new opportunities in those countries for the improved health of its people.
The Foundation's initial goal is to organize and present educational programmes to those in greatest need. The Foundation can call upon its members to provide the necessary expertise for any specific project. All proposals will be submitted to an Advisory Committee which will assess the worthiness of the proposal and advise the Foundation Board of the merit of the project. The input to such proposals will include expertise from varying disciplines including :-
