Objectives of the Foundation
The primary objective of the Foundation is to enhance global
health care, especially blood transfusion medicine, by:-The Foundation plans to realise the objective by fundraising
All donors are strongly encouraged to donate on a renewable annual basis, e.g., five years, to ensure the successful continuity of the supported programmes. Financial donations can be directed to specific applications to sustain a particular project. Feedback will be provided to donors on how monies are spent. Overheads will be kept to an absolute minimum to ensure value for money. It is envisaged that those involved will work on an expenses only basis and that there will be no need to employ full time salaried staff except for maintaining communications and some small amount of administration. Recommendations for spending the donated money will be managed by an independent Advisory Committee. Projects and proposals for financial support will be reviewed by them and only supported upon their recommendation. The Advisory Committee will work at arms length with both the supporting institutions and industries as well as the ISBT itself.
- Expanding knowledge and education on health care with particular emphasis on blood transfusion medicine, transfusion science, blood banking and related disciplines.
- Supporting projects in blood transfusion medicine, transfusion science, blood banking and related topics.
- Through education, create infrastructure in health care in countries of greatest need.
- Utilising the skills and depth of knowledge of ISBT members by involving them in education programmes to improve the practices of those in need.
- Assisting setting up facilities to achieve the goals.
- Assisting the development of simple, affordable technology to test and collect blood to improve safety.
